Fireye Insight 95DSS3-1 Scanner w/Quick Disconnect - Repaired by Acme Controls

The Fireye Insight 95DSS3-1 flame scanner is designed with advanced sensing technology to accurately differentiate between actual burner flames and other sources of light or background noise. This is accomplished through a combination of ultraviolet (UV) and infrared (IR) detectors built into a single unit.

Here's how it works:

  • Modulation Detection
    • The scanner looks for specific flickering patterns—the natural fluctuations in intensity unique to burner flames. By measuring these modulations, it can determine whether a real flame is present
  • Dual Sensor Technology
    • With both UV and IR sensors onboard, the device checks for the characteristic emissions of gas or oil flames. This dual approach allows it to pick up on a broader range of flame signatures while ignoring false signals
  • Frequency and Sensitivity Adjustment
    • During setup, you can choose the modulation frequency that gives the clearest separation between “flame on” and “flame off.” The scanner’s sensitivity (sensor gain) can be automatically optimized, or you can tweak it manually for precise operation
  • Customizable Outputs
    • Two flame relays can be set to respond to either the UV or IR detectors—or both—providing flexibility for various burner types or operational needs

By continuously analyzing the flame’s unique characteristics and filtering out unwanted signals, the 95DSS3-1 ensures reliable detection for your burner management system

The 95DSS3-1 flame scanner offers flexible output and relay configurations to support a wide range of combustion systems. For flame relay options, it features two independently adjustable relays that can be linked to the UV sensor, IR sensor, or both, depending on your monitoring needs.

On the output side, there are two dedicated 4-20 mA analog outputs—one corresponding to each flame relay—providing clear signal strength feedback for remote monitoring or interfacing with control systems. In addition, the unit includes a fault relay for system alerts, and supports programmable file selection and relay adjustments for a variety of fuels or firing conditions.

With adjustable flame relay thresholds and sensor gains, you can fine-tune detection parameters to match your specific application.

The 95DSS3-1 flame scanner supports several remote communication and programming features to simplify configuration and monitoring. For remote access via PC, you can use the Fireye Explorer software (model CU-109), allowing you to adjust operating parameters and setpoints directly from your computer.

In terms of on-device control, there are multiple operator interface options available. You can fit a two-line, sixteen-character VFD display (either user-installed or factory-installed, depending on the scanner model) which features a five-button keypad—making it easy to check status or tweak settings right at the device.

Prefer wireless connectivity? The scanner can be equipped with an infrared transmitter instead of a display. This transmitter communicates wirelessly with a compatible hand-held remote, letting you access and program the scanner without any physical connection.

When it comes to enhancing the usability of the Fireye 95DSS3-1 flame scanner, several display and interface options stand out:

  • Standard Blank Cover
    • For installations where on-site parameter viewing or adjustment isn't required, a simple blank cover can be used.
  • Operator Interface Displays
    • Two variants are available—each offers a two-line, sixteen-character vacuum fluorescent display (VFD), accompanied by a five-pushbutton keypad. The first version is designed for user installation on any standard (non-CEX) scanner. The second, a stainless-steel model, comes pre-installed from the factory on specific scanner models.
  • Wireless Communication Module
    • Instead of a standard display, you can opt for an infrared transmitter interface. Installed in place of the display, this module enables wireless connectivity, allowing communication with a compatible hand-held remote tool for real-time adjustments and diagnostics.

These options ensure flexible integration, whether you need straightforward equipment monitoring or hands-on remote management.
